Colvin of Denovan & Calcutta

This section of Arborealis presents a series of family tree outlines for those branches of the Colvin family originating from Denovan, in the parish of Dunipace, Scotland.

This is an extensive line, beginning with the 1749 marriage of Elizabeth Kennedy, daughter of the Rev. John Kennedy of Benburb, county Tyrone, and Alexander Colvin, Esq., of Denovan in the parish of Dunipace, Stirlingshire. The Colvins became known particularly for their mercantile ventures in the East Indies from the 18th century forward. Most of these merchants took their retirement in England, where a fair number of their descendants made notable careers.

When complete, this section of the Colvin family history will consist of a long list of Colvin family outlines, with many individuals linked to biographical sketches,—all of which pages to include extensive source references. This section can be searched by surname (see the first link given, below), or by family, under the sub-title, Alexander Colvin & Elizabeth Kennedy and their descendants, below. The family outlines contain biographical details, supported by source citations such as church register entries, civil registration records, and extracts from newspapers, last wills and testaments, and other historical material.
